This Sabbath morning was exceptionally blessed. On the road again! We attended service at the Seventh-Day Adventist church in Carlsbad, CA that morning. We were spiritually filled, our cups were overflowing. The songs, the message, the people and the circle of prayer just gave us the energy we needed.
On the road again! Our next stop was La Gloria, Mexico. We found the orphanage that we were looking for, although a lot different from the first one we visited. To our surprise the children seemed just as happy as the other kids, but little did we know what they have experienced until we started asking questions.
Two girls and one boy were there due to sexual abuse. One 11 year girl was suffering from a painful bloated stomach. She has been sexually abused from her stepfather, who is now incarcerated. She hasn't had her period for two months so we were hoping she wasn't pregnant! We performed a pregnancy test and to our relief it was negative. She will go to the hospital and have an ultra sound to find the exact cause.
Another 11 year old young girl had a yeast infection that was causing great discomfort. She too was sexually abused by her father. We educated the women in charge there to help the child use the yeast infection cream correctly and closely watch for effectiveness and healing.
The 12 year old boy was sexually abused by his grandfather since he was 8 years old. The damage done to this child is devastating. We sat down together and talked. I examined him with his permission and noticed discoloration around his anus with a small open sore. This situation pierced my heart the deepest because I myself have a little boy. I got on my knees with the boy and the lady who operates the Orphanage and we prayed and cried. Hugged, cried and prayed again. I asked the lady, how does he adapt to the kids and his new home? She smiled and said “Very well, but when night falls and he goes to bed, he cries himself to sleep.” Lord have mercy. I asked the boy where is your grandfather now? He replied,” He died recently from lung cancer.” Later that day we went to the local pharmacy again, this time to buy some triple antibiotic ointment for the boy to use for temporary relief and healing.
We didn't arrive completely prepared, but we used the resources that we had. We didn't have a doctor with us but God the Father was there! We know and believe that God will work a miracle in the lives of these precious and dear children who are of his fold. We look forward to returning to La Gloria Orphanage soon.
The need at this Orphanage is tremendous. From construction, plumbing, pavement, cooks, housekeepers, sport lovers, interpretors, and instructors who can grant these children a good Christian education. Whatever your gift, it will be truly welcomed, appreciated with arms wide open!!!
Peace and Love from our Lord Jesus Christ to all the readers. Whatever your gift, whatever your calling, don't bury your talent but use it while there is still time to make a difference in this world. Pray and ask the Lord to lead you. Amen.
